Rotary Club of Mirpurkhas Central, with the support of Rotary International District 3271, is constructing 129 smart houses in Nohto near Naukot, District Tharparkar, for underserved families affected by the floods. The initiative is designed not only to provide safe shelter, but also to restore dignity, stability and hope for families who have faced repeated climate shocks, displacement and economic hardship.

The Smart Village Nohto project reflects Rotary’s commitment to sustainable community development. By supporting permanent housing for flood-affected families, the club is helping vulnerable households move from temporary survival toward a more secure and organized living environment. The village has the potential to become a model for integrated rural rehabilitation, where housing is gradually linked with access to clean water, health, education, livelihood and community development services.

Alongside the housing component, discussions are in progress with Saylani Welfare regarding the possible installation of a Solar RO Plant to improve access to safe drinking water for the village community. Access to clean water remains one of the most urgent needs in rural and desert areas, and a solar-powered solution can provide a more sustainable and cost-effective option for the long term.

For education, health and other social services, Rotary Club of Mirpurkhas Central has also initiated contact with different organizations and development partners. These linkages are expected to move forward by the end of August 2026. The club’s objective is to connect the Smart Village with practical services such as basic healthcare, school support, hygiene awareness, vocational training and community-based livelihood opportunities.

The location of Smart Village Nohto also offers a unique opportunity. After the monsoon season, the surrounding desert landscape near Naukot and Tharparkar turns beautifully green, creating a natural environment suitable for fellowship visits, recreational gatherings and Rotary exposure visits. With proper planning, this location can be promoted as a responsible fellowship and community tourism point, where visitors not only experience the beauty of the desert but also contribute to the uplift of the local community.

In the future, any income or support generated through fellowship visits, community events or responsible tourism can be channelled back into skill development, women’s economic empowerment, youth training and other initiatives for deprived families. In this way, Smart Village Nohto can grow beyond a housing project and become a living example of Rotary’s vision: creating lasting impact through shelter, service, partnership and sustainable community development.
