Rotary Club of Karachi Sunset Millennium marks Pinktober with Breast Cancer Awareness Session
On 6th October 2026, the Rotary Club of Karachi Sunset Millennium, in collaboration with SFF OPD Clinics, organized an impactful Breast Cancer Awareness Session. Initiated by Mona Sohail, Chair of Disease Prevention and Treatment, this vital health initiative specifically targeted women from underserved communities, focusing on education, empowerment, and breaking cultural taboos surrounding breast health.
The urgency of this initiative is underscored by alarming national health statistics. Pakistan has the highest incidence rate of breast cancer in Asia, where 1 in 9 women are at risk of developing the disease in their lifetime. Approximately 90,000 new cases are diagnosed annually, and tragically, nearly 40,000 Pakistani women lose their lives each year. Due to a lack of awareness and deep-rooted sociocultural stigmas, over 70% of cases are diagnosed at advanced stages (III or IV), which drastically reduces survival rates compared to early-stage diagnoses, which have a survival rate exceeding 90%.
Addressing these challenges, the primary objective of the session was to provide life-saving information regarding early detection techniques, self-examination methods, and preventive care. By equipping attendees with foundational health knowledge, the project aims to create a ripple effect, enabling participants to share these crucial insights with their families and wider neighborhoods
The event was led by Dr. Jannat Noor, whose engaging approach demystified complex medical concepts. The session's depth was enhanced by a panel of invited oncologists and surgeons who provided expert insights during an interactive Q&A segment.
The organizers were deeply honored to welcome Dr. Asghar H. Asghar as the Chief Guest. A distinguished Consultant Clinical Oncologist at KIRAN and MMI, Dr. Asghar brought over 25 years of exceptional clinical experience to the forum. His extensive credentials—including an FCPS in Radiation Oncology, an MS in Nuclear Medicine from PIEAS, serving as a CPSP supervisor, and being a founding member of the City Tumor Board—added immense prestige. As a PAEC Gold Medal recipient, his address emphasized that early detection remains the most effective weapon against breast cancer mortality.
Moving forward, the Rotary Club of Karachi Sunset Millennium and SFF OPD Clinics remain deeply committed to advancing women’s healthcare through continuous community outreach and educational partnerships.
