Dr. Arjumand Rabbani, RCK New Central Polio Chair and Rotary District 3271 Co-Chair, Disease Prevention & Treatment, conducted a session on Prevention of Anemia in Pregnancy on 12th August at Bilqis Edhi Midwifery School, Lyari. 30 students and one faculty member participated in the session.

Dr Rabbani informed that anemia is a leading indirect cause of maternal mortality and its prevention should begin from puberty, preferably before pregnancy. She stressed the important role of midwives in early antenatal care, iron and folic acid supplementation, nutritious diet, timely screening, and prompt treatment of the underlying causes of anemia. Such measures can help reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality and improve outcomes for both mother and baby.
