Midwifery Diploma Distribution Ceremony by Rotary Club of Karachi Sunset Millennium
The event was held at the Koohi Goth School of Midwifery on July 13, 2026, to honor the journey of these young women from the rural areas of District Thatta, Sindh.
The Midwifery Diploma course began in March 2020 under a Global Grant with International Partner Rotary Club of Vapi, India, Districts 3060 and 3271, and The Rotary Foundation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, classes commenced in July 2020 with strict protocols in place.
Starting with 20 girls, one trainee dropped out three months into the program. The remaining 19 completed their two-year training and passed their final examinations conducted by the Pakistan Nursing Council in 2022.
Today, these midwives are serving in hospitals, NGOs, antenatal clinics, and outreach centers across District Thatta and Karachi. They are making a difference by saving mothers and newborns, and by spreading awareness on nutrition, immunization, and life-saving family planning.
To date, they have helped save the lives of many expecting mothers and babies.
The event was attended by President Dr. Kausar Malik; Club Secretary Sharmeen Peshimam; PP Bina Rasheed; Rtn. Saira Ahmed; Rtn. Firdaus Kamal; and PP Zeenat Bayat. Dr. Shoaib Sobhani, Past President RC Sunrise, who has been a long time supporter and coordinator for this project, was also present at the event.
President Kausar Malik and RCKSM members, along with the faculty of Koohi Goth, handed over the diplomats to 17 of the 19 girls, along with sweet boxes organized by RCKSM.
